Richard W. Hechter
Rich Hechter is a distinguished attorney with Coleman & Erickson, LLC, Eden Prairie, Minnesota. With an impressive career spanning over 30 years, Mr. Hechter is highly regarded for his integrity, loyalty, and deep knowledge of state and federal law. Rich is a board-certified civil trial specialist (by MSBA) and an appointed referee in Dakota County, Minnesota. He is admitted to practice law in Minnesota and the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota. He is also admitted to the 8th Circuit Court Of Appeals.
Rich’s notable legal accomplishments includes defeating the “drop-down” coverage provision in insurance policies by arguing that the clause violated Minnesota’s Human Rights Act due to discrimination based on familial relationships. Additionally, he has achieved significant victories in family law, including successfully modifying physical custody arrangements to award sole physical and legal custody to his clients. He has obtained millions of dollars for clients injured in car accidents and by medical negligence. He recently had a nurse charged with elder abuse fully acquitted in a jury trial, and also won an adverse possession case. Rich handles mostly delay in diagnoses of cancer cases and sepsis cases from surgical punctures. He also litigates for his firm, where needed.
Outside of his legal practice, Rich is a talented musician who plays drums and guitar. He also enjoys doing magic, collecting domain names and exploring entrepreneurial opportunities. Rich values spending quality time with his wife and their golden retriever, Cuddles. He has two adult children. In 2011, he authored a highly-reviewed book titled "Divorced in 60 Seconds," which has received five-star ratings. Rich is a very creative thinker and true leader in his field.
