The Impact of COVID-19 on Design and Construction

Description: A new year is underway and the vaccine for COVID-19 is being rolled out in phases. Many in the design and construction community are endeavoring to analyze and interpret the impact COVID-19 had on our industry in 2020 and will continue to have in 2021 and beyond. This presentation will address potential employment issues related to COVID-19, identify possible insurance issues related to COVID-19, and provide an understanding of some necessary methods and procedures related to COVID-19 in the field during construction. The presentation will provide attendees with a better overall understanding of the impact COVID-19 had on design and construction in 2020 and will offer predictions of continued impact in 2021 and beyond.

Objectives:
1. Will be able to identify potential employment issues related to COVID-19.
2. Will be able to understand potential insurance issues relating to COVID-19.
3. Will understand the current status of C19 methods and procedures in the field during construction.
4. Will gain a better overall understanding of the impact of C19 on design and construction in 2020 and predictions for 2021.

Ken Styrlund manages the North Central office for JE Dunn Construction. His work history extends to structural engineering for a number of firms as well, where the projects he worked on included historic renovation projects, industrial facilities, retail malls, office buildings, hospitals and medical facilities, and parking structures. After several years on the design side of the industry, Ken moved to the construction side. As a construction project manager, he managed the construction of retail, office, and cultural facilities; historic renovations and restorations; and religious and industrial projects.
